From The Pages of Iran - Iraq War (1980-1988)

The Death of Major General Khamis Al-Alwani

Khamis Mukhailef Abdul Rahman died on June 15, 2020 in Ramadi city after suffering from sickness.

On May 24, 1982, Major General Khamis Al-Alwani was captured when he was Colonel serving as Commander of the 48th Brigade, 11th Infantry Division in the city of Muhammarah (Iran) after fierce fighting against the human blocs that the Iranians pushed to the city of Muhammara.

On May 5, 2003, he returned from captivity through the International Committee of the Red Cross with a group of prisoners, where he reported to the Red Cross Committee his suffering and that of his comrades in Iran’s prisons.

The journalist Nizar Al-Samarraie mourned the death of Al-Alwani and harshly criticized the Iranians and Iraqi traitors (who colluded in collecting the prisoners) because he was also captured and lingered in Iran's prisons for twenty years where he met Major Al-Alwani.

To this day, there are approximately 1,200 Iraqi prisoners in Iran's prisons, making the captivity period of the Iraqi POWs unprecedented.
