The Late Engineer Munir Allahwerdi & His Scarce Book on

Amarah Irrigation

In December 2022, I noticed in my father's library several worthwhile engineering and other books dated back to 1950s.

One book was titled, "Irrigation Improvements in The Amarah Area -- Volume II" published in 1964 by M. Allahwerdi & Associates.

This year in May, I decided to keep the book with me because it is in poor condition. I was planning to make a copy of an entire chapter and publish it here, but decided otherwise because it may damage the book.  So I copied only the first page:

I knew Munir Allahwerdi through years of email exchanges, article writing mostly on music & history of the Iraqi National Symphony Orchestra, phone calling & finally in 2012, I visited & interviewed him in Vienna. Part of my interview can be viewed here:

My father, Mahmood Salman, a civil engineer, worked for five years at Al-Kahlaa' & Al-Musharrah Dams in the city of Amara. The dam project lasted from 1973 to 1978. So it was interesting to see in his library Allahwerdi's book on irrigation in Amarah city. Here are pictures of the dams taken between 1977 & 1978:

The opening ceremony for the Amara Dams was on 29 July, 1978, which is the date of the picture below showing the head engineer, Mahmood Salman, on the extreme right:

The path of both civil engineers, Mahmood Salman & Munir Allahwerdi may have crossed, but couldn't verify it. I asked both of them whether they knew each other, but they didn't remember!

Note 1: If you know Munir Allahwerdi's family, please forward this page to them.

Note 2: If you knew Mahmood Salman, please reply in the comment section below.
